Anika is the cutest thing on earth – there I said it! She is nine months old daughter of Ambar and a look at some of the pictures below will convince you of my claim! The most adorable subject I have ever captured!
Ambar has known me from my blog. He was working in US till he came back to India. And when he got to know I would be in Bhopal for a shoot , he asked if I could also do a photo-shoot of his daughter. Sure, I said. I had no idea that when I was finally going to meet his daughter – Anika, she was going to be this sweet little angel. Also, because today is father’s day, well I am sure Ambar is going to continue playing the role of a dear father! :)
Child photography is nothing like wedding photography except for one thing: you cannot direct it. A nine-month-old does not pose, does not repeat a smile, and does not care about your schedule. The only workable method is patience, soft window light, and a room the child already knows.
That is why we shoot children at home rather than in a studio. Familiar smells, familiar toys, parents within arm’s reach — the child stays relaxed, and relaxed children give you the expressions parents actually want to keep. Anika’s shoot in Bhopal worked exactly this way.
For parents planning a first-year shoot: pick the hour after the morning nap, keep the outfit changes to two or three, and let the photographer do the waiting. The best frame of the day usually comes five minutes after everyone stops trying.
