Clubs move for many reasons — ownership, stadiums, audience. The ISL club that began life as Hyderabad FC took that step in October 2025, announcing a move to Delhi and a new identity as SC Delhi.
What changes
A change of city resets the relationship between a club and its public. The old supporter base loses its local team; the new one inherits a squad, a history and a set of expectations it had no part in creating. Both sides of that equation take time to settle.
The football question
On the pitch, the club keeps its squad and its registration record, and it inherits a title-winning history from 2021/22. In the league’s eyes it is the same sporting entity in a new place, which is why its results continue in the same record.
Delhi as a football market
The capital has long been a market the domestic game has tried to win, with a large population and a strong school and university football culture. Whether a rebranded club can build a following there is one of the more interesting questions of the new season.
