I landed in Chennai earlier than Neelabh. I had enough time before the evening Mehndi shoot. I was put-up in a guest house in Adyar. The care taker welcomed me. And then informed me – ‘we have a power shut-down once every month. Today is that day. The electricity will come back in evening 0530 PM.’ Awesome!

With a phone with zero charge, I did the obvious thing. I hit insti. IIT Madras. I had crossed the IIT main-gate while on my way from airport to the guest-house in Adyar. As I was crossing, I quietly asked my AC ambassador taxi driver what his name was. ‘Putthu’, he answered. ‘Putthu, you see this campus on your right. I have spent five years of my life here’. ‘Five yearsaa?’, Putthu acknowledged my deep rooted connection with Chennai.

So I went to campus and got my phone charged. And what a surprise, it happened to be Convo day. Had not expected but did run into few hostel juniors. They had completed their five years. I also met Mash – my DDP guide and told him about my new plans. He was excited. He asked me drop by when the semester began and give a guest lecture. ‘Don’t speak anything technical. Just speak about life in general’, he smiled. I smiled back. And said tata to him. And to his cute little son. Who is four and a half years now. Who was only six months old when I had graduated.

While coming from airport, Neelabh picked me from IIT and we hit the venue directly. Loving family Anu had. And we had some good time clicking. And we continued clicked the next day and the day after (which is today). Anu is happy married to Akshay now. And we are so glad she gave us a chance to capture the Telugu wedding in all its grandeur. And hope she and her family like what they receive soon.

Alright, time to rush to catch my train to Bangalore. Next shoot on Wed, Thu. Neelabh is going back to Hyd in the morning but shall be joining me in Bang again. And we shall have some more kickass time. Shooting a Kannadiaga wedding this time.

PS: shall update this post with some more pics, once we get to sit down in peace and process them (shooting in RAW has its own burden, but ‘quality ke liye kuch bhi karega’.

Monsoon weddings

I think we had secured bookings for the July weddings back in April. That was the second month of the Shaadigrapher brand. All the three weddings that we are doing (and have done) in July, came to us through Google search. Google ads can do wonders – especially if your content is worth showcasing.

Because of the limited sample pictures that we had then (for our portfolio), we had to offer our services at dirt cheap prices to get these assignments. But must say that things have improved now. We have enough good stuff to display. And we also know how much other photographers charge to deliver something similar (of course, the sad realty is that, money asides, very few photographers actually offer such super-cool stuff). So things are getting better. We have decided to compete on quality and not on price. You can’t really get it cheap and it get it classy. Life is complicated most of the times, but there are rules which have always been as simple as that – low budget, stupid pics. What more to say.

Neelabh was in Mumbai last weekend and we had some wicked-ass fun shooting Shweta’s wedding. We are yet to process all the pics – but here are few samples. By the way, guess who showed up during her Menndhi? Scroll down and you would know.

We also tried our hands at shooting video. In retrospect, should have carried along a steady-cam / shoulder-rig to avoid too many shaky footages. We passed on the clips to Ankit (my brother) – who did a good job of editing / processing. Check out the sample video made for Mehndi and let us know if you like the same (ignore the shakes).

Life is good. Neelabh and I meet in Chennai the coming weekend for a three day shoot – followed by yet another shoot in Bangalore. And post that I plan to join my old IIT gang for a Goa reunion in the last weekend of July.

See you soon. And to those who have monsoon weddings, enjoy the rains and have an awesome time (actually applies to even those who are not getting married ). Heh, chalo see you anyway.

Phew! I just hope I get to sit down and plan my own marriage properly. But then, time hai abhi! All that Neelabh and I are waiting for right now is the next upcoming shoot this Friday to Sunday. Pretty girl, I have met her few times and she is as excited about her wedding pics as we are. We already know she is going to love what she sees. There is a cocktail party on Friday evening and the challenge for Neelabh and I is to shoot in ‘designed’ low light condition. Also planning to do a free video over these three days and see how it comes out to be. Ankit has volunteered to shoot something along with us (and we have decided to turn on the video shooting on our 5D MIIs and pass on the clips to Ankit). Meeting someone this Saturday who will get married during Christmas this year. And she is very keen for a 30 min video. Just that when I tried collecting samples of decent wedding videos from few people here in Mumbai, I was so totally disappointed. The quality sucks. The one whose job I liked quoted 1 lakh for a 30 min video. I’d rather do this myself then.

So folks, hold on till coming Monday and let’s see what Ankit can create out of the clips we share with him (and the ones he shoots himself). Looking forward to an amazing weekend wedding shoot.
